AI Security Posture Management (AI-SPM)
A tooling category that discovers an organisation's AI models and the data flows into and out of them, assesses security risk and surfaces policy violations.
Full Definition
AI Security Posture Management (AI-SPM) is the analogue of DSPM for AI assets. It discovers models (self-hosted, cloud-provider, SaaS-embedded), maps the training data provenance, inspects fine-tuning datasets for personal or sensitive data, logs inference-time inputs and outputs, and surfaces risks (training on unlicensed data, exposing sensitive data in prompts, model-output leaks of training data, Shadow AI model use outside the sanctioned stack).
For privacy and AI governance programmes, AI-SPM is the automated evidence layer behind EU AI Act Article 10 data-governance obligations, DPDP SDF algorithmic risk assessment under Section 10, and GDPR Article 35 DPIAs for high-risk AI processing. Gartner's 2024+ taxonomy treats AI-SPM as a distinct category from both DSPM (data layer) and CSPM (cloud infrastructure). Mature programmes bind AI-SPM to the broader data governance stack so that each model's inputs and outputs are governed under one access, classification and retention policy.
