TruePrivacy + Google Cloud Storage
Scan GCS buckets for personal data in files and exports.
Overview
Google Cloud Storage (GCS) is Google Cloud's object storage service, used to store data exports, backups, log archives, and analytics files — many of which contain personal data accumulated over time. TruePrivacy connects to GCS using a Google Cloud Service Account to scan buckets and objects for personal data, classify the content, and surface compliance risks.
For GCP-native organizations, GCS often holds personal data across multiple buckets used by different teams — data pipeline outputs, ML training data, customer exports — that may have never been formally governed. TruePrivacy brings this data under your privacy programme.
What TruePrivacy can do
Data types accessed
- •CSV and JSON data files
- •Log files with user identifiers
- •Parquet and Avro analytics files
- •Document files with personal content
- •Database exports stored in GCS
DSR capabilities
- Identify GCS objects containing a data subject's records
- Flag objects for manual deletion or remediation
- Classify personal data categories across scanned objects
How it works
- 1
Create a Google Cloud Service Account for TruePrivacy with Storage Object Viewer access on the buckets to be scanned.
- 2
TruePrivacy scans GCS bucket objects, sampling file contents to identify personal data in supported formats.
- 3
Discovered personal data is classified by category and added to your data inventory with bucket and object-level detail.
- 4
High-risk objects (public access, no encryption, excessive retention) are flagged for remediation.
Frequently asked questions
TruePrivacy requires roles/storage.objectViewer on the buckets to be scanned, which grants read access to list and download objects. No write or delete permissions are required for the discovery use case.
Yes. TruePrivacy can be configured with service accounts for multiple GCP projects, scanning GCS buckets across your entire GCP organization if needed.
